2021 Mentor Red Blend Douro D.O.C.

Hailing from one of the world’s oldest wine regions, 2021 Mentor Red Blend Douro D.O.C. is a luscious blend of several red grape varieties native to Portugal. Deep red in the glass, this medium to full-bodied wine opens with aromas of sweet and ripe red fruits that meet refined spice notes. There is elegant structure with soft tannins, leading to a persistent, balanced finish. A careful selection of fully ripe grapes comprise this blend: Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, and Touriga Nacional, joined by Tinta Roriz (also known as Tempranillo). The mixture of different varieties allows for a great complexity of flavors. Located in Northern Portugal, the beautiful Douro wine region is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has been primarily known for producing port wine. Named for the Douro river, it reflects a unique landscape marked by mountainous terrain with vines planted on steep terraces along the river bed. With a rich winemaking history spanning thousands of years, Douro offers wines with unique character made from indigenous grape varieties. This blend was crafted by winemaker Álvaro van Zeller for Barão de Vilar. The van Zeller family has been producing port wine since 1715, with 14 consecutive generations involved in the wine trade in Portugal. Barão de Vilar combines their extensive knowledge and experience in winemaking with advanced technology to offer wines that reflect the special nature of the Douro. 2021 Mentor Red Blend Douro D.O.C. is excellent with a variety of cheeses, especially smoked. It will also complement red meat dishes, such as beef teriyaki, chili, and steak with chimichurri sauce.
