2023 Domaine Jean-Michel Dupré - Morgon - Chai d'Oeuvre

Story
It was in a vineyard perched above the village of Beaujeu, in the heart of the Beaujolais region, that Jean-Michel Dupré began his story with a farm and vineyard of just 2 hectares left by his father. After converting the buildings into a winery, he went in search of well-situated plots in Beaujolais, Beaujolais Villages, Morgon and Regnié. The particularity of his vineyard lies in the age of his vines, some of which are a hundred years old.

Vineyard
At the base of the Côte du Py lies a renowned terroir known for producing wines with remarkable finesse. The winemaking process here is like composing a beautiful melody—something an accordionist would appreciate. The soil consists of ancient alluvial deposits. The vineyard sits at 220 meters altitude, with a south/southeast-facing orientation.

Vinification
The winemaking process is natural and minimal. Whole-grape vinification occurs with indigenous yeasts and no SO2 until bottling (30ppm). Light 2-micron earth filtration follows. In the vineyard, pruning, trellising, ploughing, and inter-row cereals support healthy growth. After a 10-day maceration, the wine matures for nine months in vats.

Tasting Notes
Deep garnet color with violet highlights in the glass. The nose is delicate and elegant with notes of deep cherry, raspberry, and a touch of earth. The palate has a beautiful texture with melting tannins.
