Ancien Wines Chardonnay Carmel Valley River Ranch 2023 750ml

I've been neglecting white wine lately, especially Chardonnay. However, I've had a few recently that have reminded me exactly what I've been missing. The most recent are the Chardonnays crafted by Ken Bernards at Ancien.

Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are two grapes that produce radically different wines depending on the climate and soils where they grow. Carmel-by-the-Sea is a cold, Central California coastal region known for yielding bright wines with crisp acidity—and this River Ranch Chardonnay is a perfect example.

It is exceptionally fresh, delivering crisp notes of peach, apple, and pear. There is nearly no "butter" to be found, with just the right amount of oak and lees-character supporting the body, structure, and complexity of the wine.

Pair with seafood; herb-roasted chicken; pan-seared tofu; light, creamy cheeses; and spring vegetables.
