Bistra Slivovitz

Bistra is a premium Serbian slivovitz — a plum brandy double-distilled from ripe Serbian plums and matured three years in large oak casks for a golden color and a smooth, almond-tinged character.

Slivovitz is the national drink of Serbia, and the plum its national fruit; the name comes from the Slavic word for plum. Serbia is the world's largest exporter of slivovitz and second-largest plum producer. For Bistra, selected ripe plums are crushed, the pits separated, and the mash fermented with regional yeasts before being double-distilled. The spirit then rests in oak casks of up to 5,000 liters for aromatic completion, followed by further aging in stainless steel before bottling. Its signature almond note comes from amygdalin naturally present in the plum seeds.
