The 2020 ‘The Grand Daddy’ Cabernet Sauvignon is an absolutely fantastic showing in this vintage. It begins with gorgeous aromatics of blueberries, dark currants and boysenberries, which are woven together with graphite, violets, exotic spices, black licorice, lavender and subtle hints of smoked meat all developing over time. On the palate this is full-bodied, round and opulent with a gorgeous velvety texture. This shows excellent concentration and depth, as loads of dark berries, mocha, earth and spices all build up to the voluptuous finish. 95+ points, Jeb Dunnuck, February 2023The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The Grand Daddy is mostly Clone 4, but they’re changing blocks going forward, so I expect future vintages to vary slightly. The 2020 is one of the standouts, and while I don’t think it matches previous vintages, it has beautiful, full-bodied aromas and flavors of blue fruits, tobacco, graphite, and incense, with ripe, polished tannins.
