Seems to have originated with British wine merc ...  'Chateau La Rose d'Esteuil, Haut-Medoc' 

Bordeaux, France.....
This classic offering is a blend of 50% merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet franc;
The wine has a beautiful, dark ruby tint, the nose is very complex, with notes of spice and ripe fruit backed by a fine, woody delicateness.
On the palate, the wine is elegant, with a hint of vegetal, dark fruit and oak, all coming together after a good 1/2 hour of opening; ripe and smooth tannins. The finish is long and persistent.
