The Gold First Release is distinctive for two reasons. First, the blend itself: combining the crystal-clear Plata with an 8-year Ultra Añejo creates a liquid that spans the full range of the Clase Azul flavor spectrum — the fresh, crisp agave character of the unaged Plata alongside the rich, dark, complex notes of an 8-year extra añejo aged in both bourbon barrels (for vanilla and caramel) and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks (for concentrated dried fruit, dark berry, and thick sweetness). PX sherry is one of the most intensely sweet and characterful cask types in spirits, and at 8 years its influence on the Ultra Añejo component is profound. Second, the bottle itself: a combination of glass and ceramic, a format Clase Azul had worked on for years before this release, with a hand-painted base and the gold accents that give the collection its name. The different colors of the decanter symbolize the blend inside.
