Waterford's Lismore pattern has been in continuous production since 1952, and for good reason: the combination of elongated diamond cuts and fine vertical cuts creates a brilliance that no other crystal pattern quite matches. In the Captain Ships shape — that wide, stable base narrowing to a long elegant neck — it becomes something genuinely extraordinary.
Heavy in the hand the way only real lead crystal can be. The cuts are smooth and precise, the glass catches light and throws it back across the room, and the faceted stopper fits with the satisfying snug certainty of something made to last generations. The current retail price for a new Lismore Ships Decanter is approximately $650. This one is priced as a vintage find.
A note on authenticity: earlier Waterford pieces carried foil labels rather than etched marks, and this example is unmarked — consistent with pre-1980s production. Based on the weight, the quality of the cuts, and the clarity of the glass, we are confident this is authentic Waterford, but we have priced it conservatively to reflect that we cannot guarantee it with a mark. Waterford Crystal was founded in 1783 in Waterford, Ireland by brothers George and William Penrose, who wanted to produce fine crystal of the highest quality. The original factory closed in 1851 but was revived in 1947 with the help of skilled European glassblowers, and the Lismore pattern — inspired by the towers and arches of Lismore Castle in County Waterford — was introduced in 1952. It became the world's best-selling crystal pattern and remains in production today. Waterford is now part of the WWRD group alongside Wedgwood and Royal Doulton.
