History
Del Maguey Santa Catarina Minas Minero Mezcal is a unique spirit that is a limited edition mezcal made in Santa Catarina Minas. This pueblo has an arid semi-tropical microclimate and great water, which contribute to the distinctive character of the spirit. Crafted by Florencio Carlos Sarmiento and his sons Florencio Carlos Vasquez and Luis Carlos Vasquez, this mezcal is steeped in tradition and passion. Their “Palenque,” or site of production, is the most well-organized we have seen, featuring a cistern to cool and recycle the water used in the condensation process. Notably, the still is produced using clay and bamboo tubing, which enhances the sweetness of the mezcal compared to the usual copper stills and tubing. This meticulous approach ensures that each batch reflects the rich heritage and artisanal craftsmanship of the region, giving enthusiasts a taste of the history and culture embedded in every sip.
