The collaboration is genuinely unusual in the tequila category: rather than using the standard American or French oak barrels available to any producer, Paradiso uses casks that previously held actual Grande Champagne Cognac from A. de Fussigny. The Cognac residue in the barrel imparts a distinctive earthy minerality, subtle brandied fruit character, and a drier, more restrained sweetness than American oak aging produces. At 5 years — well beyond the 3-year Extra Añejo minimum — the Cognac oak influence is thoroughly integrated into the spirit rather than surface-applied.

The base spirit uses El Tesoro’s traditional tahona production: a volcanic stone wheel crushes the roasted Blue Weber agave piñas rather than mechanical shredders, producing a more fiber-forward, earthy fermentation.
