Far North Spirits is a true estate distillery on the Swanson family farm in northwestern Minnesota, just miles from the Canadian border — run by fourth-generation farmer and head distiller Michael Swanson. Rather than buying commodity grain, they grow their own single varietal rye on land shaped by the ancient glacial lakebed of Lake Agassiz, treating grain the way a winemaker treats grape varietals: as the true source of flavor and terroir.

Musketeer is one entry in their Single Varietal Rye series, made from a rye strain originally bred for Western Canada — tall, rustic, and more prone to lodging in the field, but well suited to the region's brutal winters. It's mashed and fermented on-site, double distilled on their Vendome hybrid pot still, and matured in small 15-gallon new oak barrels, giving the whiskey an outsized wood influence in a short maturation window.
