Hirsch Bourbon - The Horizon

Hirsch's newest offering, The Horizon, honours their forward-looking nature: steadfast, determined, moving onward at a brisk pace, forever in search of the next adventure. Essentially this expression combines two straight bourbons distilled in Lawrenceberg, Indiana: 94% of the blend is distilled from a traditional mash bill and aged a minimum of 4 years. The remaining 6% is distilled from a “high rye” mash aged 6 years for added complexity.

Nose: Classic aromas of caramel and oak but with a hint of cherry as well as the scent of melting butter on raisin toast.

Palate: Thin but still creamy mouthfeel with sherry cask overtones - even though there has not been any sherry introduced in the process. Christmas spices, black cherries and hint of stewed plum. Most intriguing.

Finish: Sweet caramel finish with some lingering heat. Not overly complex but nicely rounded.
