This car was successor to the M44 155mm self-propelled cannon since 1962 and has been produced together for approximately 2,000 vehicles for the U.S. Army and Marines. After that, improvements were added such as changing the main gun into a new model, and as a modern improvement occurred, the total production of the series has expanded to approximately 10,000 cars. The M109A7 is an upgraded vehicle with the M109A6 Paradin engines and transmissions in conjunction with the M2 infantry combat vehicle and is designed to reduce maintenance costs.
