Kelim Gashgai Rug

The Gashgai are Turkish-speaking nomadic tribes living in the region around Shiraz in southwest Iran. Kilims are flat, reversible wool rugs with a typical slit weave. This means that the weft has slits where the colors change. The rugs feature classic Gashgai motifs such as rhombuses, squares, stripes, and Caucasian star patterns. Colors such as blue, yellow, red, green, and beige are used.
