History
Michter's 10 Year Rye 2022 is created with tradition in mind at the Michter's Distillery in Kentucky, Louisville. It was crafted in pursuit of Michter’s goal of making the greatest American whiskey. The journey began in the 18th century when a Swiss Mennonite farmer, John Shenk, settled near Pennsylvania's Blue Mountain Valley. After years of hard work, Shenk found himself with more grains than he could sell, prompting him to purchase a still and begin distilling whiskey. This distillery, eventually named Michter's, became the first distilling company in the United States. Over the years, Michter's has perfected its craft, producing a barrel strength bourbon that undergoes an additional aging period in a custom second barrel made from 24-month air-dried wood, which enhances its richness and complexity. The rye whiskey itself is made from a mash of fresh rye grains, which are meticulously treated to maximize flavor during fermentation. Distilled in copper pot stills and aged in charred American oak barrels, this process, combined with a unique heat-cycling technique, ensures a depth of character, imparting notes of marmalade and caramel that make this whiskey truly exceptional.
