The perfect companion for any of their home grinders, Nuova Simonelli’s MCI grinder is a serious performer in a slim package. The MCI benefits from its commercial counterparts, since many of their components and technology are integrated into its little body. It holds the same NSF rating as all of Nuova Simonelli’s machines, so you can be confident that it’s chock full of professional-grade parts. The MCI’s stepless adjustment allows for infinite fine tuning of the grind by adjusting the burrs in small increments with a quick twist of a knob. An excellent feature of the MCI, is that the bottom burr moves up and down during adjustment. So, when you remove the top burr for cleaning it won’t affect your grind setting at all. It’s easy to access the burrs by simply removing three phillips head screws on the panel under the hopper. It’s simple and quick, and you can jump right back into grinding afterward.

The MCI comes equipped with a 150 watt motor that handily revolves its 50mm burrs during grinding. The motor is relatively heavy, acting as a counterbalance of sorts to prevent wobbling and ensure a quiet grind. Using the MCI is simple, and, of course, it wouldn’t be a Nuova Simonelli if it didn’t have options. The MCI’s timed grinding dial can be set between 4.5 and 15.5 seconds, for a certain amount on demand, or you can grind manually. Ground coffee is dispensed out of the chute into an awaiting portafilter basket, and, while it’s quick, we did notice it’s a bit messier than some grinders. Though, if you can find a mess-free grinder, it’s likely divine. In all, the MCI is thoughtfully designed, intuitive to use, and the perfect finishing touch to a Nuova Simonelli set up.
