Nux Alpina Walnut Liqueur is an Austrian walnut liqueur made from fresh green Weinsberg walnuts steeped for months in grape brandy, then finished with spices and alpine botanicals. Rich walnut, warm baking spice, subtle bitterness, dried fruit, and smooth sweetness give it a balanced profile that avoids feeling syrupy. Bottled at 32% ABV, it is excellent after dinner, in coffee, cream drinks, and stirred whiskey cocktails.

Nux Alpina is produced by Austria’s Purkhart family, which has made the liqueur for three generations using the same family recipe. Destillerie Purkhart is also behind Rothman & Winter orchard liqueurs, with a focus on fruit eau-de-vie, schnaps, and traditional Austrian liqueur production. Nux Alpina reflects Alpine walnut liqueur tradition, where nut-based digestifs are especially associated with colder weather and holiday drinking.

Nux Alpina Walnut Liqueur is a strong fit for a Walnut Old Fashioned variation with bourbon or rye, orange bitters, and an orange twist. Used in place of part of the sweetener, the liqueur adds walnut, spice, grape brandy depth, and a darker finish while keeping the cocktail structured.
