Paul Beau, Hors d'Age Cognac, 30 Year Old

The Hor d' Age is an average of 30 years old. It was rated one of the 130 best spirits in the world from Paul Pacult's Spirits Journal, which gave it 5 stars and their Highest Recommendation, saying: "Harmonious and tightly-knit cognac splendor. A new entry that blew me away...and one that's affordable on cognac terms." Wine & Spirits magazine said, "...a smoky and spicy brandy with cherry and green apple fruit, caramel and mild rancio...a long earthy finish."

The Beau family is one of the oldest Bouilleurs de Cru – artisanal cognac distillers – in Segonzac, the heart of Cognac’s first growth, known as the Grande Champagne region. Samuel Beau started distilling in 1895, bottling and selling part of his cognacs under his own name, which at that time was quite unusual. By 1914 following both Samuel’s death and the beginning of World War I, Samuel’s son, Paul, took over the family business. While he kept distilling, he decided to stop bottling the family’s eaux de vie. 1977 saw the rebirth of this activity: the Beau family, meticulously taking care of its 200 plus acres, all located in Grande Champagne, have since then kept bottling their cognacs under the Maison Paul Beau brand as homage to their ancestors.
