Grown on the west side of St. Helena, this distinctive cabernet sauvignon clearly displays its origins with a rich garnet hue and sophisticated aromas of cacao bean, crème de cassis, and sweet tobacco on the nose. Layered, with a superb structure, the wine offers impressions of blueberry coulis, black raspberry, and savory herbs like Herbs de Provence. The weighty mid-palate unveils anise spice and a graphite mineral note that combines with a fresh acidity that extends the long finish.
Critic Ratings
This deeply colored Cabernet opens with powerful black fruit, spring flower, pencil and scorched-earth aromas. It is full-bodied, concentrated and layered, with ultra-fine tannins and the freshness and purity associated with the vintage. A blockbuster finish and long aging potential complete the wine.
Ripe red fruit is joined by crushed rock, cement, pine needle and tobacco leaf. The medium-bodied palate is agile and elegant, giving the wine unusual energy and lightness despite its complexity. It is already expressive but should improve further after additional bottle age.
Sage, thyme, dusty earth and black cherry create a nuanced aromatic profile. The medium- to full-bodied palate is rich but supple, harmonious and approachable. A softly dusty texture carries through the long finish.
Blackberry, black cherry and raspberry preserve form a fresh, vibrant core. Cast iron, warm earth and dried anise provide a firm structural frame through the lengthy finish. The wine has ample fruit for balance but will benefit from time to settle and unfurl.
