This shrubby succulent boasts Red Hot Poker-like racemes of red tubular flowers on mature plants. Cultivate it in loam-based compost with added grit and supplement with 2-3 feedings in the summer. During winter, maintain a dry environment.

Conservative watering is recommended, especially during wintertime for succulent plants such as Torch Aloe. Over-watering can be detrimental to these plants, so it's important to avoid excessive moisture. Before watering, check the moisture level of the compost by feeling it with your finger. If the plant is in a container or saucer without drainage holes, make sure there is no stagnant water at the bottom. Adding pebbles or grit to the bottom of the container can help with drainage.

Generally, succulents do not need frequent feeding. Be careful not to overfeed or use the wrong type of feed. A low-nitrogen cactus-specific fertilizer is recommended for most succulents, but only once a month during the summer. In order to thrive, succulents require ample natural sunlight, especially during the winter. A sunny windowsill is an ideal location for smaller plants. During the summer, if plants seem to be struggling in a very hot windowsill or conservatory, consider moving them to a cooler spot or even outdoors when there is no risk of frost at night.
