Whisky Sponge Old Orkney Malt 16 Year 2006 (Edition 03)

From an undisclosed Orkney Island distillery, this single malt was distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2022. It rested for 16 years in a single refill hogshead.

Total worldwide outturn: 342 bottles.

Nose: Plenty of damp wood, sea sprayed driftwood and, curiously, honeydew melon.

Palate: Briny notes carry from the nose along with sweet fruit notes. Mid palate  brings tangy citrus and creamy vanilla wafers.

Finish: Extended finish with lingering minerality and that sea-air freshness.
