Hacienda Sonora is one of Costa Rica’s most recognized specialty coffee estates, nestled in the volcanic foothills of Carrillos Alto de Poás in the Central Valley. Family-owned for more than a century, the farm is now led by Alberto and Diego Guardia, whose commitment to quality and innovation has helped shape the modern reputation of Costa Rican coffee.

Rather than following convention, Hacienda Sonora has spent decades refining alternative processing methods, becoming one of the country’s early pioneers of Natural and Honey coffees. Every lot is hand-picked before undergoing meticulous drying and resting stages designed to preserve clarity, sweetness, and complexity. The entire estate is powered by renewable energy generated from its own water turbine, reflecting the farm’s long-standing commitment to sustainability.

This Dwarf Caturra Natural is a perfect example of Sonora’s philosophy. Fermentation brings expressive aromatics and vibrant fruit character, yet the cup remains remarkably clean and structured. Expect layers of ripe cherry, red wine, sugar cane sweetness, and a crisp green apple candy finish supported by lively lactic acidity and a silky mouthfeel.
