Once again, I appear to have underestimated a G3 wine from barrel (readers might recall that I upgraded my rating of the 2021 version of this wine after bottling as well). Now bottled, Perchance's 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Vineyard Georges III delivers a gorgeous mix of ripe cherries, softly dusty earth and gentle dried spice elements. It's full-bodied, supple and rich without being heavy, with a long, mouthwatering finish. According to winemaker Mike Smith, this vineyard's irrigation and misters allowed it to sail through the September heat wave.

A serious looking barrel sample, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard reveals a dense purple color to go with rocking notes of blackcurrants, smoked tobacco, damp earth, and chocolate. Rich, full-bodied, and concentrated on the palate, it has great tannins, plenty of mid-palate depth, and the class to evolve for 20 years or more..

Winemaker Notes

Twenty-nineteen was an incredible year for our Beckstoffer Vineyard Georges III Perchance Estates Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep and brilliant violet in the glass coupled with amazing clarity, this wine is a showstopper at first sight. Aromas of dark dried fruits, acacia flowers, huckleberry and Belgium chocolate intertwine with a mid-palate that is loaded with layers of pedigree. The beauty of this site is how it captures and marries subtle, but exuberant ripeness with the dusty earth of the Rutherford appellation. The mid palate and finish is where this wine gains momentum and precision; loaded with perfectly ripened fruit and powerful, yet refined, tannins that frame a 30 second finish This wine is immediately approachable, yet will gain further complexities for 3-8 years. Extended aging may add a touch of magic. One of the most complex and layered versions of Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard that I have ever made. 

An explosive wine of verve and power, showing blue fruits across the spectrum. Extraction, intensity, and dark berry liquor elements dance across the palate with wonderfully smooth and integrated tannins. The Perchance Estates bottling exudes more depth, extraordinary length and grace, with a finish that can last for 2 days.”
